Andy Murrary Wimbledon 2016

Andy Murray Takes Nothing for Granted at Wimbledon 2016

Ask both the Belgian and English football teams, along with the lengthy list of examples from history, being the favourite to win any sporting competition means absolutely nothing in theory. The true reality is the actual results delivered in the end. The Belgians could not handle the self-belief, courage, unity, and teamwork of the Welsh. Nor did the might of England against the comparatively small force of Iceland.  Both these favourites have been sent packing abruptly from the Euro 2016 Football Tournament.

The summer of 2016 continues to deliver monumental sport shocks! It would have taken a really brave person to bet against Novak Djokovic at least reaching the Wimbledon tennis final. Others may have regard him winning it as a foregone conclusion. Nevertheless, Sam Querry had other ideas and showed that Djokovic is human after all - in other words, beatable in the game for which he has shown such invincibility for so long.

Djokovic's shock defeat now opens the door wide for Murray to capitalise and win his second Wimbledon in three years. Murray's performances in the tournament so far have been very good, but one must not forget that one of the greatest player of all time Roger Federer is still lurking in the background with some sublime performances. So should Murray make it to the final he may not have it all his own way. Nevertheless, if Murray continues to produce his best tennis it is difficult to see anyone stopping him lifting trophy at Wimbledon for the second time in three years now that Djokovic is out. Yes, it is a bold statement. But with that man Ivan Lendl in his corner, Murray will be a difficult force to stop.
